Hastings City Hall Open House Coming in October

The public is invited to an open house for the renovated Hastings City Hall.

The open house will be 4-6 p.m., Monday, Oct. 5, 2026. Tours will be provided.

Representatives from project architect CMBA Architecture and general contractor Genesis Contracting will be present. 

Administration and Development Services employees moved back into the building on Wednesday, Aug. 19. City Hall was previously addressed at 220 N. Hastings Ave., is now 615 W. Third St.

The Administration Department had been located at the Landmark Center at 2727 W. Second St.; and the Development Services Department was housed at a city-owned building at 3505 Yost Ave., since June 2023.

Interior demolition began in August 2024. The renovation addressed environmental, ADA and structural concerns with the building. 

The city is waiting on an inspection to put the building’s new elevator into service for moving large items to the second floor. The Finance Department, which also has been housed in the Landmark Center since June 2023 and will be located on the second floor of the building, will move into City Hall after the elevator is accessible.

The project is also waiting on clips to attach some of the exterior panels into place. The building exterior is anticipated to be completed by the end of September. 

Hastings City Council members unanimously approved a motion on Sept. 25, 2023 to renovate the 22,000-square-foot City Hall rather than demolish the building and build new. 

City Hall was constructed in 1963 for use as a bank. The City of Hastings acquired the property in 1984 and has used it to house various municipal offices since that time.

In addition to the council chambers, City Hall is also home to the Administration, Development Services and Finance Departments.

The City Council chambers were remodeled and reoriented. The dais is now at the north end of the room instead of the west, increasing seating capacity.

The first meeting scheduled for the council chambers will be the Hastings Utility Board meeting on Thursday, Sept. 10. The first Hastings City Council will be Monday, Sept. 14.
