Hastings Crossing to Close

The Cooperative Producers Inc. railroad crossing at Showboat Boulevard north of U.S. Highway 6 is scheduled to close next week for track improvements.

R & S Track Maintenance, Inc. of Columbus and Ashland will complete track work at the CPI crossing. Part of the work involves re-working the railroad crossing at Showboat Boulevard. Crews will also mill and resurface the short section of Showboat Boulevard between the CPI tracks and the BNSF tracks. Once complete, the area will be new and smoother.

Showboat Boulevard is scheduled to close at the crossing after 8 a.m. on Tuesday morning, Sept. 8, 2026. The contractor hopes to finish the work and reopen the road on Friday, Sept. 11, 2026.

During the project, Southbound traffic is supposed to stay on U.S. Highway 34/281 through town. The contractor will use a changeable message board to notify southbound traffic before they turn onto the east bypass at 42nd Street.

Northbound traffic is supposed to go west through town on U.S. Highway 6 to Burlington Avenue (U.S. Highway 34/281). A changeable message board will also be used to notify westbound U.S. Highway 6 traffic and have them continue west on the highway.
