Hastings Fire Responds to First at Brewery Lofts Apartments

Hastings Fire and Rescue responded at 5:48 a.m., on Wednesday Feb. 4, 2026 to the report of a structure fire at the Brewery Lofts Apartments at 219 W. Second St. Firefighters evacuated the building, assisting multiple residents in the evacuation process. Two adults and two juveniles were transported to Mary Lanning Healthcare for further evaluation due to smoke inhalation.

Firefighters were on scene until about 11:30 a.m. HFR along with the Hastings Police Department determined the fire was arson. The subsequent investigation led to the arrest of one adult male and one juvenile male, both residents of Hastings.

Damages are estimated at around $5,000 including smoke damage to the stairwell. No residences were damaged by the fire.

Although the damage was minimal, there was substantial impact to the safety of the residents as this was in the main stairwell for the building and it became impassable due to the smoke.
