Hastings Kiwanis Reaches 85% of Fundraising Goal for New Community Skatepark
HASTINGS, NE — The Hastings Kiwanis Club announced today that it has raised $178,000 toward its $200,000 fundraising commitment for the new Hastings skatepark. This milestone brings the Club within $22,000 of fulfilling its portion of the total project cost.
The recent momentum is fueled by a $50,000 matching gift from David and Debra Schnase. In recognition of their contribution, the park’s premier feature will be named "The David and Debra Schnase Family Bowl." The Schnase family has requested that the focus remain on how their donation can inspire the rest of the community to help bridge the final gap.
"The Schnase family’s generosity has put our goal within arm's reach," said Mike Howie of the Hastings Kiwanis Club. "We’re about $22,000 away from meeting our club’s commitment to this $500,000 facility. This isn't just about skateboards; it’s about providing a safe, modern and high-quality space where our youth can build resilience and community. We’re asking the community to help us over this final hurdle."
The project also recently received a $10,000 grant from the Hastings Community Foundation, further bolstering local support for the state-of-the-art design. Once completed, the park will feature the David and Debra Schnase Family Bowl, a pump track, grind ledges, and spectator seating, replacing the outdated equipment currently located near the City Parks & Recreation offices.

Gifts can also be dropped off during the club’s annual Pancake Day, which is 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 10 at the Adams County Fairgrounds. Pancake Day is the Hastings Kiwanis Club's biggest fundraiser each year.
