HPD to participate in Make It Click seat belt enforcement initiative

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in partnership with law enforcement agencies nationwide, is working to keep motorists safe through increased seat belt enforcement efforts.

The Hastings Police Department has been awarded a grant through the Nebraska Department of Transportation to support overtime traffic enforcement as part of the national “Make it Click” high-visibility enforcement campaign. The campaign will run from May 15 through May 31, 2026.

During this period, officers will conduct proactive traffic enforcement with an emphasis on seat belt compliance. The goal of this initiative is to reduce injuries and fatalities resulting from crashes involving unrestrained drivers and passengers.

Whether traveling out of town or running daily errands, motorists are reminded to always wear a seat belt. Before leaving any parking location, ensure that all occupants are properly restrained, including children who must be secured in appropriate car seats.

Law enforcement agencies across the country will be participating in this coordinated effort to promote roadway safety and save lives.
