Hastings Police Wraps Up Make it Click Effort

Hastings Police Department Logo

The Hastings Police Department recently participated in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) annual “Make it Click” high-visibility enforcement campaign, conducted from May 15 through May 31, 2026.

Through a grant provided by the Nebraska Department of Transportation, Hastings Police Department officers conducted additional traffic enforcement efforts focused on seat belt compliance and occupant safety. The campaign is designed to reduce injuries and fatalities resulting from crashes involving unrestrained drivers and passengers.

Throughout the enforcement period, officers proactively monitored traffic violations and educated motorists on the importance of wearing seat belts. Seat belts remain one of the most effective safety devices available and significantly reduce the risk of serious injury or death in a traffic crash.

The Hastings Police Department reminds motorists that wearing a seat belt is a simple step that saves lives. Drivers are also encouraged to ensure that all passengers are properly restrained and that children are secured in age- and size appropriate child safety seats.

During the May 15–31, 2026 enforcement period, Hastings Police Department officers worked an additional 58.5 hours of overtime which resulted in 128 citations being issued for various traffic and criminal offenses.

The Hastings Police Department appreciates the public's cooperation in helping make Hastings roadways safer for everyone.
