Hastings Roundabout Opens

The roundabout located at South Street and Elm Avenue, which is part of the Nebraska Department of Transportation's Hastings Southeast project, partially opened to traffic on Monday, Sept. 21, 2026.

The north and west legs of the roundabout are open to traffic, with the south leg only open to local traffic to businesses on Elm Avenue south of South Street, but the south leg is not open to B Street.

The detour for traffic east of the roundabout is Park Street and Second Avenue. Access to businesses on Elm Avenue between B Street and D Street is via local streets west of Elm Avenue. 

Access to Good Samaritan Village will be maintained though D Street at Elm Avenue or First Avenue at South Street. 

South Street east of the roundabout and Elm Avenue south of the roundabout are anticipated to reopen in six to 10 weeks, expect traffic delays with active construction in the area. Work includes grading, storm sewer, concrete paving, and lighting.

Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.
