Hastings Utility Department tree-trimming to begin next week

The Hastings Utility Department’s fifth large-scale tree-trimming project in the last six years is scheduled to begin the week of May 4. The Green Tree Company from Red Oak, Iowa will be trimming trees in Juniata.

Other areas included in the 2026 tree trimming area include the stretch of 12th Street between Juniata and the Westbrook subdivision, DLD Road between Southern Hills Drive west to midway between Adams Central and Osage avenues, Lochland subdivision, and East 26th Street between just west of Showboat Boulevard to just east of Blaine Avenue.

The Hastings Utility Department is committed to improving reliability and reducing the number of power outages in the electric system. Large scale tree-trimming projects are part of the effort to reduce outages. Trees contacting high-voltage electric lines and branches tearing down customer service wires during storms are some of the most common causes for power outages.

Areas where the trees have been trimmed away from lines have noticeably less outages than areas where trees have not been trimmed. The tree-trimming work is scheduled to continue through the summer. For more information call Hastings Utilities at (402) 463-1371
