Heartbeat Creative District mural crosswalk deadline extended to June 1
The Heartbeat Creative District extended the Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for artists interested in participating in a new public art initiative: the Mural Crosswalk Project on First Street in downtown Hastings.
The RFQ was initially released on April 7 with a deadline of May 1, 2026. The deadline has been extended until June 1, 2026 to accommodate more submissions from artists.
This project is part of an ongoing effort to enhance the vibrancy, walkability, and creative identity of downtown Hastings. Selected artists will have the opportunity to design and install large-scale, painted crosswalks that reflect the spirit, culture, and energy of the Hastings community.
The RFQ has been distributed to artists and creative organizations across the region, inviting submissions from individuals or teams with experience in public art, mural work, or creative placemaking. Finalists will be selected based on artistic merit, relevant experience, and their ability to create engaging designs.
The mural crosswalks will be located along First Street in downtown Hastings, and are intended to serve as both functional infrastructure and eye-catching works of art.
The project includes 19 proposed crosswalks. Individual artists are limited to four crosswalks.
The project is made possible through grant funding awarded to the Heartbeat Creative District, reinforcing its mission to foster arts, culture, and economic vitality in the community.
Artists interested in applying are encouraged to review the RFQ materials and submit their qualifications by the stated deadline. Additional details, including project scope, submission requirements, and timelines, are included in the RFQ packet.
