Home Federal Survives Gretna at State
Grand Island Home Federal battled from behind twice for a 6-4 win over Gretna Post 216 in the opening game of the National Division State Tournament at Memorial Field in Kearney.
Brody Davidson smashed a two-out two-run double in the bottom of the fifth to put Home Federal (33-9) on top to stay. That followed Blake Casper's RBI single which tied the game at four. Ian Arends began the rally with an infield single. Arends went 4-4, doubled and scored twice.
Brock Cushing threw over 100 pitches in six innings for his ninth win. Gabe Ruiz worked a scoreless seventh for his fourth save.
