Hope Harbor to Break Ground on Lighthouse Apartments

GRAND ISLAND, NE — Hope Harbor, Inc. will host a groundbreaking ceremony for Lighthouse Apartments on October 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at 615 W 1st Street in Grand Island. The event will mark the beginning of construction on the organization's largest capital project to date and Central Nebraska's first permanent supportive housing community.

Lighthouse Apartments will provide 20 units of permanent supportive housing combined with wraparound services designed to support residents' long-term stability and self-sufficiency. The
$11.9 million development is expected to open in early 2028.

"This groundbreaking represents years of planning, partnership, and community commitment to an urgent need," said Kendra Lutz, Hope Harbor's Executive Director. "Lighthouse Apartments will transform lives and demonstrate what's possible when a community comes together around
housing as a solution to homelessness."

The project has been made possible through the leadership of Hope Harbor's Board of Directors and generous support from federal, state, and local government partners—including the Nebraska Department of Economic Development (HOME-ARP program), the City of Grand Island, and Hall County Housing Authority—alongside national and local philanthropic and corporate partners.

Pinnacle Bank and Five Points Bank are providing construction financing, with Blair Freeman Group managing the project as owner's representative, Alley Poyner Macchietto serving as architect, and Chief Construction serving as general contractor.

The development reflects Hope Harbor's commitment to expanding its housing continuum and meeting individuals and families where they are with the support they need to achieve stability.
