Hope Harbor to Have Change in Leadership
Grand Island, NE - Hope Harbor is entering an exciting new chapter and is pleased to share key leadership updates as the organization moves into its next phase of development.
Liz Mayfield, who has served as Executive Director since 2016, will be stepping down from her current role. Hope Harbor expresses deep gratitude for her visionary leadership and is proud announce that she will transition into a consulting role focused on advancing the organization’s $10 million Lighthouse Apartments development. This project is one of the region’s first Permanent Supportive Housing initiatives and the only one of its kind in central Nebraska.
Liz joined Hope Harbor in 2014 and became Executive Director in 2016. During her time leading Hope Harbor, she created successful fundraising events, expanded programming by 24%, doubled operational revenue, strengthened cross-sector partnerships, and secured both public and private funding to support capital and operational needs. Under her guidance, Hope Harbor aligned its operations with trauma-informed care practices, built a trusted brand across the state, enhanced donor engagement, and led multiple strategic planning efforts. Her leadership has been a driving force in establishing Hope Harbor as a regional leader in housing and community services.
Her transition into a consultant role reflects a proactive step in Hope Harbor’s long-term strategy. In this role, Liz will continue to provide guidance and leadership on the Lighthouse Apartments project, ensuring continuity and sustained progress. Her ongoing involvement supports a seamless transition while allowing space for new leadership to guide the organization forward.
Hope Harbor remains committed to advancing community-driven initiatives that create lasting impact. The capital campaign continues to be a central focus, supporting the development of permanent supportive housing that provides stability and opportunity for individuals and families in need.
In addition to this transition, Hope Harbor is pleased to share that Jen Bernth has stepped into the role of Assistant Director. With more than 11 years of experience as Finance Manager, Jen brings strong operational knowledge and leadership.
The Hope Harbor Board of Directors will immediately begin the search for a new Operational Executive Director to lead the organization into its next phase. This role is pivotal in driving future initiatives and ensuring the continued success in fulfilling the organization’s mission. The Board looks forward to welcoming a dynamic leader who shares its vision and commitment to community impact.
