Hotel Occupation Tax Paused January 1–15 in Grand Island

Grand Island, Neb. — The City of Grand Island wants to remind visitors to the city as well as hotel operators throughout Grand Island that there will be a pause of its hotel occupation tax for a 15-day period at the beginning of the new year.

No hotel occupation tax will be levied within Grand Island from Thursday, January 1 through Thursday, January 15. During this time, the 2% hotel occupation tax will not be collected on lodging stays within city limits.

Unless further action is taken by the Grand Island City Council, the 2% hotel occupation tax will automatically resume on Friday, January 16. The hotel occupation tax has typically been used to support the Heartland Events Center. Any long-term changes to the tax rate or its continuation would require formal action by the City Council.

Hotel operators and lodging providers are encouraged to ensure their systems reflect the temporary suspension period and the resumption date, unless notified otherwise by the City. The City of Grand Island will provide updates if additional council action is taken.
