Lincoln – The Nebraska men’s basketball team will face an early-season test this November, as the Huskers will face Providence in the 2026 Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off.  The matchup, announced by the Basketball Hall of Fame, takes place on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., and is part of a college basketball doubleheader that day.  In addition to the Nebraska-Providence matchup, Rhode Island will face Monmouth.

Tickets for the 2026 Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off will go on sale Friday, September 11, via Ticketmaster and on sale at the Mohegan Sun Arena Box Office starting Saturday, September 12. Tipoff time and broadcast ticket information will be announced at a later date.

“We are looking forward to participating in the Hall of Fame Tip-Off,” Nebraska Coach Fred Hoiberg said. “The matchup against Providence in this environment provides our program an early opportunity to test ourselves against a very good BIG EAST opponent. The Hall of Fame Tip-Off is annually one of the premier early-season events in college basketball, and we are honored to be a part of it this season.”

Nebraska returns two of its top three scorers and six letterwinners from a team that won a school-record 28 games and reached the NCAA Sweet 16 last season. The returnees are headlined by rising senior Pryce Sandfort, who earned first-team All-Big Ten honors after averaging 18.1 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. NU also welcomes back Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year Braden Frager, as the rising sophomore averaged 11.8 points and 3.8 rebounds per game.

The Friars, who tied for seventh in the BIG EAST last season, will have a retooled roster under the direction of first-year coach Bryan Hodgson, who led South Florida to the American Conference title last season before taking the Providence job.

The matchup will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools. NU has won its last three games against BIG EAST teams dating back to the 2024-25 season.

Monday’s announcement marks the second non-conference game announced for the 2026-27 season, as Nebraska will face Boise State in Sioux Falls, S.D., on Nov. 15.
