Injury Accident in Hall County
At approximately 2:55 p.m. on Oct. 6, 2026, Hall County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Highway 281 and Wood River Road reference an injury accident involving a pickup and a semi truck. A preliminary investigation indicates a 2020 Freightliner was turning west on Wood River Rd from the northbound lanes of Hwy 281. The Freightliner crossed the path of a southbound 2000 GMC Sierra resulting in a collision in the southbound lanes of Hwy 281.
The driver of the Freightliner was a 25-year-old male from Roseville, CA. The driver of the GMC Sierra was a 17-year-old male from Grand Island. The 17-year-old was transported to St Francis Hospital with serious injuries. An 18-year-old female passenger was transported to Grand Island Regional Hospital with minor injuries. The driver was using his seatbelt and the passenger was not. Front airbags were deployed.
Alcohol is not suspected to be a contributing factor.
Hall County Sheriff’s Office crash investigators responded to the scene and continue to investigate the crash. This is an ongoing investigation and charges are pending. Hall County Sheriff’s Office deputies were assisted by the Grand Island Police Department, the Nebraska State Patrol, the Grand Island Rural Fire Department, the Grand Island Fire Department and the Hall County Attorney’s Office.
