Inspiration and Generosity Take Center Stage at 5th Annual Harvest Event

GRAND ISLAND, NE — On the evening of September 24, 2026, community members gathered for Harvest 2026, an inspiring celebration marked by overwhelming local support, shared gratitude, and a unified passion for empowering area students and educators. The remarkable turnout highlighted the spirit of the community and its unwavering commitment to supporting public education.

A standout moment of the evening was the presentation of the Heart of the Foundation Award—the organization's highest honor—to the Allen Family: Eric, Connie, Mark, and Jordan. Their deep-rooted dedication, generosity, and tireless service have left an indelible mark on Grand Island Public Schools, the GIPS Foundation and the community. Recognizing their extraordinary contributions served as a meaningful tribute to a family whose service lies at the core of the community.

The evening’s energy reached new heights with a keynote presentation by guest speaker Larry Baker, a Grand Island Senior High Class of 1992 alumnus. Returning as a proud graduate, Baker delivered a message filled with inspiration, humor, and heart. He emphasized the transformative power of education and highlighted the lasting difference community mentorship and foundation support make in the lives of students.

“Harvest 2026 was an absolutely amazing year, exceeding our goals for the Mission Moment led by Larry Baker and featuring the most spectacular Dessert Dash, showcasing confections that surpassed all expectations!” said Kari Hooker-Leep, Executive Director of the GIPS Foundation. “The tremendous generosity and support we witnessed will allow the GIPS Foundation to expand our scholarship opportunities once again and continue providing the resources, support, and opportunities our students and staff need to thrive and succeed.”

The success of Harvest 2026 was made possible through the collective efforts of the entire community. Generous donors and sponsors provided critical financial support that directly funds academic programs, scholarships, and educational opportunities for local youth. Meanwhile, dedicated volunteers worked behind the scenes to ensure a seamless event, and enthusiastic attendees showed up to demonstrate their shared commitment to student achievement.

Because of this broad generosity and community spirit, Harvest 2026 stood as both a successful fundraiser and a powerful testament to what local collaboration can accomplish.
