Islanders Comeback To Defeat Hastings

(Hastings, NE) - Battling the windy conditions on Monday night at Duncan Field, the Grand Island baseball team would come from behind to defeat the Hastings Tigers by a final score of 4-3. 

Grand Island would come back in the top of the 7th to tie the game at 3-3 to then get three outs in the bottom of the frame to force the 8th. Trent Verplank would put a ball in play to score a run in the top of the 8th for GI to take the lead for good 4-3. 

Brock Cushing went 6 strong innings for the Islanders on the mound, giving up 7 hits and 3 runs. Ethan Coslor came in and pitched the last two innings for GI. GI was led by Coslor with 2 hits in the game. Schroeder, Ruiz, Verplank, and Laureiro would each have a hit for the Islanders. 

Grand Island is now 11-5 on the season and will be back in action on Wednesday, April 23rd in Lincoln for a double header vs Lincoln Pius X and Lincoln Northstar.
