Jasa Spins Seven-Inning Gem, No. 25 Huskers Run-Rule Iowa

Carson Jasa struck out nine and allowed just two hits across seven scoreless innings in No. 25 Nebraska’s 10-0 run-rule victory in eight innings against Iowa in front of a crowd of 7,094 fans on Friday night at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park.

Nebraska (35-14, 18-7 Big Ten) scored 10 runs on 12 hits and an error, while Iowa (29-19, 12-13 Big Ten) was held scoreless on a pair of hits.

Trey Fikes finished 2-for-3 with a double, home run, two RBI and two runs scored, and Joshua Overbeek went 2-for-3 with a double and three runs driven in. Dylan Carey homered and drove in a run on a 2-for-5 night, and Mac Moyer finished 2-for-5 and scored once.

Max Buettenback launched a pinch-hit homer in the eighth, and Rhett Stokes, Drew Grego and Case Sanderson recorded one hit each.

Jasa was dominant, improving to 9-2 on the season after dealing seven shutout frames in 106 pitches. Caleb Clark and Tucker Timmerman combined to close out the final inning for the Big Red.

Nebraska opened the scoring in the bottom of the second with Overbeek’s RBI double down the left-field line after Buck reached on a fielder’s choice to give the Big Red a 1-0 lead.

Moyer began the bottom of the third with a leadoff single through the right side and came around to score on Sanderson’s RBI single to left field, double NU’s lead to two.

The Huskers added another run in the fifth when Will Jesske lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Fikes from third, who opened the frame with a double down the left-field line.

The Big Red expanded the lead to five in the sixth when Fikes blasted a two-run homer into the berm in left field.

Nebraska broke it open in the seventh with three runs, highlighted by Overbeek’s two-RBI single and an RBI bunt single off the bat of Stokes.

Back-to-back homers to begin the bottom of the eighth clinched the Huskers’ run-rule victory in eight innings on Friday night. Buettenback blasted a leadoff pinch-hit homer down the right-field line, before Carey launched a solo homer into the left-field berm to give Nebraska its 10-0 win against the Hawkeyes.

Nebraska and Iowa continue the series tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. on B1G+. Tomorrow’s pregame Senior Day recognition is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park.
