Laura Blake Signs With Doane Track & Field

Laura Blake signs with Doane University to participate in track & field

(Grand Island, NE) - On Thursday morning, Grand Island Central Catholic senior Laura Blake signed with Doane University to participate in track & field for the Tigers. 

Blake, while at Doane, will major in biology on the pre-veterinary medicine track. 

Laura's high school sporting career started off a bit shaky with a variety of injuries along with a few necessary surgeries; however, she was able to compete at the state level during her junior year, earning a 3rd place medal in the high jump. Laura is currently tied for Central's school record of 5'4 and is
hoping to set a new record throughout this current ongoing track season. Along with her accomplishment of medaling at state, Laura also has multiple standings on the top ten All-Time charts.

During her signing ceremony on Thursday, Blake also received the Academic Excellence Scholarship to Doane, which grants her full tuition. To apply for the scholarship, you have to score a 27 on the ACT, which Blake took multiple times to accomplish the goal.
