Local Foundations Step Up to Support a Local Nonprofit

Grand Island, NE, October 17 2025 - Choice Family Health Care has received financial support from two local foundations to help fund a program to identify and reduce sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in central Nebraska.
Many nonprofits are currently in a difficult financial position due to recent funding cuts and uncertainty with grant sources. Choice Family Health Care was recently notified of the elimination of state grant funding for their STI (sexually transmitted infection) screening and education program.
The program is aimed at reducing the incidence of STIs in the area and also provides community education to reduce the risk of infection. “Testing and treatment for STIs in a community is not only important for an individual patient but has implications regarding the spread of infections throughout a community”, says Ryan King, the agency’s Executive Director. “Infections that go undetected can move throughout the population, causing a host of health concerns.”
The Bud & Gloria Wolbach Foundation and the Greater Grand Island Community Foundation answered the call for assistance. Both foundations understand the importance of the program and provided financial support for it. “It really says something when local foundations support the work of our nonprofit organization. It says that our community values the services we provide and it reiterates the importance of the work going on at Choice Family Health Care”, says King. The agency continues to face uncertainties with additional grants within the organization. The clinic provides access the healthcare serves for uninsured and low-income families. Services include breast and cervical cancer screening, women’s annual exams, basic infertility services, preconception health services, health education and more. Over the last year, Choice Family Health Care provided services during 2,130 visits to the clinic, of which, 72% of patients were eligible for free or reducedf ees and over 50% of patients were uninsured. The clinic is available as an option for people to get needed care if they do not have access to other medical facilities.
The organization continues to seek out additional grants and other funding sources to support their work. Donations can be made by contacting their office or on their website’s donation page at https://choicefamilyhealthcare.org/donate-today.aspx
