Majerus Ks 11; Cats Win On Road
A 60 minute rain delay didn't slow down the St. Paul/Palmer Cats in Fairbury Thursday. A severe thunderstorm rolled through Jefferson County around two hours prior to first pitch. An outstanding effort by the Coaches, Players, and Grounds Crew made the game playable with a first pitch at 5:30.
The Cats wasted no time scoring as Sacrifice Flies from Braxton Heater and Jadyn Thomsen gave St. Paul/Palmer an early 2-0 lead. The Cat's second hit of the first inning led to their third run as Mason Hoppes scored Alex Meinecke. Fairbury's lone run came on a leadoff home run in the bottom inning.
St. Paul/Palmer added to their lead in the second with four runs in the frame all coming with two outs as the Cats batted through the order. Mason Majerus was on the hill for the Orange and Black, the leadoff homer didn't phase Majerus as he struck out the side on in the bottom of the second giving St. Paul/Palmer a 7-1 lead through two.
The combo of the St. Paul/Palmer Offense adding nine runs combined in the third and fourth innings along with Majerus' pitching was too much for Fairbury to overcome as Mason fanned 11 Jeff Batters enroute to a 16-1 victory in five innings.
The win moves the Cats to 6-8 on the season. Majerus finished the day with 11 strikeouts giving him 21 Ks over his last two starts. Braxton Heater led the team with five RBIs while Alex Meinecke finished with three.
Majerus earns Runza MVP honors while Parker Lentz takes home the Dugout Grill Dang Good Play of the Game.
The Cats are back in action Tuesday at York in a doubleheader vs the Dukes and Guardian Angels CC/West Point Beamer.
