Makerspace Connect Program Featured for Welcoming Week

Grand Island, Neb. — The Grand Island Public Library will be celebrating “Welcoming Week” September 12-21, and they’ll be doing so with a special Makerspace Connect Program.
The program will take place on Tuesday, September 16 from 6-7:30 p.m. “Welcoming Week” is an annual initiative highlighting communities working to be inclusive and welcoming for all residents, including immigrants.
During this adult-focused program, participants can create a free custom book bag (limited supply) or make a magnet, button or other craft. The program is generously sponsored by the Grand Island Public Library Foundation.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to tour the library’s makerspace and explore the Stuhr Museum exhibit, Then and Now: The Flavors of Grand Island. This visual exhibit pairs historic images of Grand Island buildings with photos of the immigrant-owned restaurants now occupying those spaces, celebrating the families and cultures shaping the city today.
Visitors can also apply for a Library card, learn about fall programs, and access resources such as Mango, Libby and Hoopla. For more information, please contact Library Director Celine Swan at [email protected] or by calling (308) 385-5333, Ext. 3101.
