March Traffic Fatality Toll

April 16, 2026 (Lincoln, Neb.) — During the month of March 2026, sixteen people were killed in traffic crashes on Nebraska roadways, according to data collected by the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
 
¨       These 16 fatalities occurred in 15 fatal crashes.
¨       Four of the thirteen vehicle occupants killed were not using seatbelts, six were using a seatbelt, and three had seatbelt usage marked as unknown.
¨       Twelve of the fatalities were in rural locations*
¨       There were three fatalities on the interstate, nine on other highways, and four on local roads.
¨       One of the fatality crashes involved a train
¨       Two of the fatalities were motorcyclists.
¨       One of the fatalities was a bicyclist.
¨       One of the fatalities was the driver of a farm tractor.

¨       There were 17 fatalities in March of 2025
¨       Only 17 of the 46 vehicle occupants killed during 2026 were using seat belts.
 
*The Federal Highway Administration definition for urban is an area with a population of 5,000 or more.
