Mavericks Clinch Regular Season Title and No. 1 Seed

Nebraska Omaha Mavericks

OMAHA, Neb. - After already making history and securing a share of the program's first ever Summit League Regular Season Title, the Mavericks finished the job today by defeating Oral Roberts 80-57 to lock down the full share of the title and the No. 1 seed heading into the conference tournament.

Omaha officially ends the regular season at 13-3 in league play and 19-12 overall. Those 13 conference wins are tied with the 2018-19 team for the most in program history, while the 19 wins are the second most in the Division I era behind 2018-19's 21. As for the Golden Eagles, they end the regular season in last place in the league at 3-13 with a 7-22 overall record.

Today was also Senior Day in Omaha, with Joshua Streit, JJ White, and Marquel Sutton all honored before the game.

Leaders for Omaha
Four Mavericks finished in double figures today, led by Tony Osburn who went 6-for-10 from behind the arc for 22 points. This was the second most three-pointers he has ever had in a game. Likewise, White, who led the team with six assists, also matched his career high in threes by shooting 4-for-7 to end the day with 18 points.

Sutton notched his sixth consecutive 20-point game with exactly 20 today while also pulling down a team-high nine rebounds. Isaac Ondekane rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points to go along with his five rebounds.

Team Stats
The Mavericks outshot the Golden Eagles across the board, besting them in FG% at .435 (30-for-69) to .357 (20-for-56), 3-PT FG% at .364 (12-for-33) to .290 (9-for-31), and in FT% at .800 (8-for-10) to .727 (8-for-11).

Omaha also had a substantial lead in rebounds at 45 to 32, while also turning the ball over just six times vs. 11 times for ORU.

Inside the First Half
The Mavericks burst out of the gate and quickly took a 19-5 lead just five minutes in. Osburn went 3-for-3 from behind the arc during the opening minutes to provide the bulk of the offense. White would then take over the sharpshooting over the next six minutes as he made three of his own from deep to make it 33-22 with eight minutes left in the half. Sutton also reached double digits in this span as well.

Inside of eight minutes, Ondekane kept the lead in double figures with a couple of buckets in the paint to make it 37-25 with seven minutes remaining. ORU, though, would play its best basketball of the day in the final minutes of the half, scoring eight in a row to cut the deficit to 37-33 by the five-minute mark. After a three from Lance Waddles broke up the run, the Golden Eagles came right back and scored five of the last six to make it a three-point game at the half.

Inside the Second Half
An opening dunk from Mathok Majok reduced Omaha's lead to just one at the start of the second half. That would be as close as ORU would get, however, as the Mavericks ensured they would not give up the lead at any point in the half. A dunk from Sutton and another three from Osburn would make it a seven-point game with 15 left, before a 21-0 scoring run from 11:26-3:29 put the game away for good. During this run, Osburn scored another eight points with two more threes, while White added six points of his own.

With Omaha's lead now a staggering 75-47, victory was all but assured as Khamani Cooper, Grant Stubblefield, Pablo Soumare, Lincoln Palbicki, and Sebastian Perry came in off the bench to close it out for the Mavericks.

Game Notes
- White ends the day just 15 points away from 1000 with 985. He also joined Osburn in the 100 three-pointers club as he finished with 102.
- Speaking of Osburn, he moves into a tie for 14th in program history in threes with 142.
- Sutton now has 1308 career points, putting him one away from behind tied for 14th all-time. He is also just three rebounds short of becoming the 12th Maverick ever to reach 600 boards, and exactly one field goal from becoming the 11th Maverick to ever reach 500. Sutton is also 18 points away from reaching 600 on the season.
