More Than 100 to graduate from CHI Health’s Nurse Residency Program

CHI Health

Kearney & Grand Island - In the wake of the post-pandemic nursing shortage - finding, training and retaining strong nurses is more important than ever. That’s why CHI Health is investing in its workforce by training newly licensed nurses in the specialty they work in. For example, a new ICU nurse will receive specialized training to meet the unique needs of patients in intensive care. More than 100 Registered Nurses will graduate from the Nurse Residency Program this year. The program has helped bring CHI Health’s first-year nursing retention rate to 95 percent.

Nurse residency programs are not new, but CHI Health’s curriculum is. This will be the first graduating class to complete the new training through CHI Health’s parent organization, CommonSpirit Health. Graduation ceremonies will be taking place throughout Nebraska in the various communities CHI Health serves. The presentation of certificates starts at 3 p.m. Local media is invited to cover the event. Each ceremony location is listed below, along with the number of graduates:

Omaha - 57 graduates - CHI Health Midlands, Ogram Conference Room
Lincoln - 27 graduates - CHI Health St. Elizabeth, Rose & Franciscan Conference Rooms
Grand Island - 10 graduates - CHI Health St. Francis, 7th Floor Main Tower Room 731
Kearney - 10 graduates - CHI Health Good Samaritan - West Tower Classroom

“Seeing more than 100 of our new nurses complete this program is incredibly exciting and encouraging,” said Tim Plante, Chief Nursing Officer for CommonSpirit Health’s Central Region (CHI Health). “The purpose of the program is to give our nurses the tools to transition to practice safely, effectively and efficiently.
