Nebraska Cooperative Council Annual Meeting and Hall of Fame
KEARNEY, NE--The 81st Annual Meeting of the Nebraska Cooperative Council will be held on Wednesday, November 18th will be the induction of two individuals into the Nebraska Cooperative Council Cooperative Hall of Fame.
The Council's Board of Directors implemented the NCC Cooperative Hall of Fame in 1999 as a way to recognize individuals who, through their service and leadership, have impacted the cooperative system in Nebraska.
On November 18th, the Council will induct Jim Chism and Bruce Favinger into the Nebraska Cooperative Council Hall of Fame.
Jim Chism ... In recognition of a distinguished career dedicated to strengthening Nebraska's agricultural cooperative system, Jim Chism served Frenchman Valley Farmers Cooperative from 1982 to 2012, advancing from feed sales to General Manager and CEO through leadership grounded in integrity, service, and vision. Under his direction, the cooperative expanded significantly through strategic mergers, infrastructure investment, enhanced member services, and innovative financial programs that strengthened long-term patron equity and working capital.
A steadfast advocate for farmer-owned cooperatives, Jim championed strong local control while embracing thoughtful growth to meet changing agricultural needs. His leadership extended beyond his cooperative through service on the Nebraska Cooperative Council Board of Directors from 2003 through 2012, including five years as Chair, where he worked to protect and advance the cooperative business model at the state and national levels.
Respected for his humility, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to members, employees, and rural communities, Jim Chism leaves a legacy of cooperative excellence that continues to benefit Nebraska agriculture.
Bruce Favinger ... In recognition of a lifetime of distinguished service to Nebraska agriculture and the cooperative system, Bruce Favinger leaves a legacy of visionary leadership, integrity, and collaboration. For more than three decades, he served on local and regional cooperative boards, including as Chairman of Heartland Co-op and Cooperative Producers, Inc. (CPI), helping guide strategic mergers that strengthened farmer-owned cooperatives and enhanced opportunities for agricultural producers across Nebraska.
A steadfast believer in the cooperative principle of "Cooperation Among Cooperatives," Bruce fostered unity among producers, cooperatives, employees, and communities. His leadership was instrumental in the growth and success of CPI and in advancing the agricultural cooperative movement statewide through service on the Nebraska Cooperative Council Board of Directors and numerous Council committees.
Bruce was also a champion of agricultural innovation, cooperative education, and public advocacy, representing Nebraska agriculture at both the state and national levels. His commitment to service extended beyond agriculture through leadership in community and educational and civic organizations.
For his enduring contributions to Nebraska cooperatives, agriculture, and rural communities, Bruce Favinger is honored with induction into the Nebraska Cooperative Council Hall of Fame.
