Nebraska, Notre Dame Announce Home-and-Home Football Series

The University of Nebraska and the University of Notre Dame will meet on the gridiron for a home-and-home series in 2032 and 2033. It will mark the first matchups in more than three decades for two of the most-tradition rich programs in college football. 

Nebraska will host Notre Dame at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln on Oct. 30, 2032, before the Huskers travel to South Bend for a matchup at Notre Dame Stadium on Oct. 29, 2033.

The most recent series between the schools occurred in 2000 and 2001. Nebraska won both contests, earning a dramatic 27-24 overtime victory in South Bend in 2000 in front of a crowd that included an estimated 30,000 Husker fans. Notre Dame visited Lincoln the following year, with the Huskers winning 27-10 in 2001.

“The series with Notre Dame is the type of matchup that college football fans circle on their calendars years in advance,” Nebraska Director of Athletics Troy Dannen said. “Our fans have a tremendous appreciation for the history of college football and iconic venues.  We are excited to welcome Notre Dame and their fans to Lincoln in 2032, and I know our fans will travel to South Bend in full force in 2033.”

Nebraska and Notre Dame have met 16 times previously, with the Huskers holding an 8-7-1 advantage in the all-time series.  The teams met 11 consecutive seasons from 1915 to 1925, with the schools splitting those meetings 5-5-1.  Notre Dame won a pair of games in 1947 and 1948.  Nebraska has won the three most recent games, beginning with the 1973 Orange Bowl in Bob Devaney’s final game as Husker coach, as well as the 2000 and 2001 contests.

Both programs are in the top 10 in all-time victories with Notre Dame ranking fourth with 974 victories, while Nebraska is eighth with 933. In the poll era the schools have combined for 13 national titles, with the Fighting Irish winning eight championships and Nebraska owning five national titles.

The matchups with Notre Dame give Nebraska nine scheduled games against Power Four opponents between 2028 and 2035.
