Nelson Named KJCCC Pitcher Of The Year

(Concordia, KS) - Grand Island Senior High graduated Cohen Nelson, who picked up Pitcher of the Year honors for his performances this past season in KJCCC play. 
 
The second-straight player from Cloud County to earn KJCCC West Division Pitcher of the Year honors, Nelson went unbeaten on the mound this season by posting a 6-0 record across 37.2 innings with a 1.19 earned run average and 70 strikeouts. Six of Nelson's nine starts came in conference play, recording 17.47 strikeouts per nine innings against conference foes and allowing just four earned runs in 28.1 innings of work. Posting four outings with double-digit strikeouts, Nelson had 11 strikeouts on three different occasions and accounted for 41 strikeouts across his final four outings of the regular season. 

Nelson is currently committed to play for the Nebraska Cornhuskers next season. 

The Cloud County Community College baseball team ended its historic season on Friday, May 15, with a 13-4 loss in seven innings to No. 1 Johnson County Community College in the 2026 NJCAA Division I Plains District Tournament at Eck Stadium in Wichita, Kansas.

The T-Birds, ranked No. 2 in the final regular season NJCAA Division I Baseball Rankings, finished the season with a 50-7 overall record, marking the first 50 win season in program history. Cloud County clinched its first Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) West Division title.
