North Star Walks Off Grand Island, 2-1


(Lincoln, NE) - Grand Island fell to Lincoln North Star 2-1 on Wednesday on the final play of the game. The game was tied at one in the bottom of the seventh when Nate Jackson singled, scoring one run.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Lincoln North Star pitchers struck out six, while Grand Island sat down eight.

A single by Ian Arends put Grand Island on the board in the top of the fifth.

Jayden Johnson singled down the left field line on an 0-2 count, which helped Lincoln North Star tie the game at one in the bottom of the sixth.

Easton Wesslund earned the win for Lincoln North Star. The hurler allowed six hits and one run over seven innings, striking out six and walking none. Gabe Ruiz took the loss for Grand Island. The hurler went two-thirds of an inning, allowing one run (zero earned) on one hit, striking out one and walking none. Blake Caspar stepped on the bump first for Grand Island. The starting pitcher allowed six hits and one run over six innings, striking out seven and walking none.


Gavin Ruether, Brody Davidson, Arends, Sam Schroeder, Brock Cushing, and Ruiz each collected one hit for Grand Island. Arends led Grand Island with one run batted in. The outfielder went 1-for-3 on the day.


Wesslund led Lincoln North Star with three hits in four at-bats. Jackson and Johnson each drove in one run for Lincoln North Star.
