Northwest Basketball Splits At Hastings


(Hastings, NE) - The Northwest Vikings hit the road on Tuesday night for a short trip south to take on the Hastings Tigers. The boy's game was played first on the hardwood and saw Hastings running away with a 69-45 victory. The Vikings had the first points of the game with a three-pointer. Hastings had back-to-back buckets and led the rest of the way. The Tigers held a 35-19 lead at halftime and after three quarters 52-31 advantage. With the win, Hastings is now 6-10 on the season. Northwest drops to 4-11. 

In the girl's contest, Northwest would defeat Hastings 55-38. The Vikings would win 8 three-pointers in the game. Laiken Dorsey would have five of them. Dorsey would hit four in the first half and add another in the third quarter. The other three would come from Reagan McIntyre (2) and Emersyn Graves (1). The Vikings would lead at halftime 34-26 and then open up the game in the third quarter with an 11-2 run to lead 45-28 going to the fourth quarter. With the win, Northwest is now 9-7 on the season. Hastings drops to 3-11. 

Both schools will be back in action on Friday, February 2nd. Hastings heads to North Platte. Northwest will host Schuyler. In between the girl's and boys' games for the Vikings, recent athletic hall of fame member Al Sheffield will be recognized.
