Northwest Football Season Comes To An End


(Waverly, NE) - The Northwest football season came to an end on Friday night, falling at Waverly, 35-13.

The Vikings would have a tough first half, only getting two first downs with eight punts in the first two quarters. The undefeated Waverly Vikings would flex their muscle early, getting two rushing touchdowns from Nathan Axmann in the first quarter. Gavin McMillian would catch a 40-yard touchdown pass with 30 seconds left in the first quarter. Two more touchdowns would come for Waverly in the 2nd quarter as McMillian would have a 14-yard touchdown run. Waverly would then make it 35-0 going into the halftime break with a 6-yard touchdown pass from Brockston Teply to Brady Schieffer. 

Northwest would two scores in the second half. Blake Wissing would throw an eight yard touchdown pass to Keith Delaet. The PAT missed making it 35-6. With :21 seconds left in the game a punt that would go off the side of the foot by Waverly would be picked up by Zane Harb and returned for a touchdown from 12-yards out make it 35-13 with the made PAT. 

Waverly is now 10-0 on the season and advances to the state quarterfinals next Friday night to host the Seward Bluejays. Seward defeated McCook on Friday night 35-12.

The Northwest football season comes to an end with a 4-6 record.
