Northwest Notches 20th Win At York

(York, NE) - The Northwest Vikings softball team would hit the gas early on Monday night scoring four runs in the 1st inning and four in the 5th inning defeating the York Dukes by a final score of 8-4. Northwest would start the game off with a double by Jolie O'Hara followed by a Kyra Ray bunt single. Reyse Zobel would get hit by a pitch leading to Becca Dinkelman with a 2 RBI single. Laiken Dorsey would then add a 2 RBI double to make it 4-0 Northwest in the top of the first. York would get a run in the bottom of the 2nd inning on a Avery Albers solo home run. York would add a sac fly in the bottom of the 4th to make it 4-2 Northwest. 

The Vikings would then open things up with a four-run top of the 5th. After a Ryese Zobel double, Libby Loman would get an RBI single. Then Northwest would go yard back to back with Graclyn Simmons hitting a 2-run home run, then Ava Smith would follow that up with a solo home run to make it 8-2 Northwest. York senior Lauryn Mattox would get her 10th home run of the season smacking a 2 out 2 run homer in the bottom of the 7th. The Vikings would then get the final out in the game as Graclyn Simmons would strike out McKenzie Linder. 

Simmons would end the game in the circle with her 14th win of the season going 7 innings on 117 pitches striking out 10, giving up 8 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned, and had 2 walks in the game. The freshman pitcher faced 31 batters. 

Northwest picks up their 20th win of the season against one loss. The Dukes are now 13-10 with the loss. The Vikings will have a few days off and be back in action on Saturday, September 28th traveling to Crete for the Cardinals Invite. Northwest will get a first-round bye and take on the winner of Crete vs Elkhorn North at 11:00 am. 

Other first-round matchups on Saturday include Bishop Neumann vs Roncalli/Duchesne and Hastings vs Aurora.
