Northwest Soccer Splits With Schuyler On Senior Night

(Grand Island, NE) - The Northwest soccer teams hosted Schuyler on Tuesday night at Viking Field. The Northwest seniors were honored in between matches. It was the second-to-last home match for the Vikings of the regular season as Northwest will host Hastings Friday, April 25th, for the regular season home finale.
The Northwest girls ran away from Schuyler 10-0. Northwest would lead 8-0 at halftime and then score two goals in the first three minutes of the 2nd half to end the match as the NSAA mercy rule would kick in. Northwest would be led by senior Lupe Sanchez, who would have three goals. Evie Keller would get two goals. Senior Bryndal Moody would knock in a first-half penalty kick goal. The Vikings would also get two goals scored by senior Leah Carlson. Anna Keller and Savannah Wilson would also have a goal each. The Northwest girls are now 11-2 on the season. The Vikings are coming off two wins on Monday in Seward over Seward and Lexington to claim their fourth straight Central Conference tournament championship.
In the boys' match, Northwest would have its hands full with a very solid 10-2 Schuyler squad coming off their 2-1 win Monday to claim the Central Conference tournament championship. The Vikings were looking to snap a three-match losing streak. With 32:27 remaining, Northwest would get a goal from Keith DeLaet to make it 1-0 Vikings. A red card was then issued to a freshman, Martin Aguilera, as he took down a Schuyler player who was on a breakaway for a scoring chance with 28:41 left in the first half. Northwest would then play a man down the rest of the match. Northwest would hold off the Warriors who had a flurry of chances to score and tie the match but the Vikings would go into the halftime break leading 1-0. Schuyler then came out blazing in the first three minutes to score three goals and lead 3-1. The fourth unanswered goal for the Warriors would come with 37.27 remaining in the match. Northwest slips to 3-7 on the season.
