Northwest Softball Wins Central Conference Tournament
(Hastings, NE) - Graclyn Simmons threw a shutout to lead Northwest past Crete6-0 on Friday at Smith Softball Complex in the Central Conference Tournament championship game.
The Vikings earlier in the day would defeat Seward 17-7 in the first game of the day. Then down York 4-0 in the semi-final matchup.
Northwest was the first to get on the board in the second when Madynn Dunham induced Sadie Cemper to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored.
Three more Northwest runs crossed the plate in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 5-0. Becca Dinkelman hit a solo home run to right field, and Lexi Ross doubled, scoring two runs.
Dunham took the loss for Crete Cardinals Varsity. The pitcher went seven innings, giving up six runs on 11 hits, striking out eight and walking two.
Northwest amassed 11 hits in the game. Ross led Northwest with two runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The center fielder went 2-for-4 on the day. Simmons, Dinkelman, Abby Dinkelman, and Ross each collected two hits for Northwest. Northwest ran wild on the base paths, tallying seven stolen bases for the game. Northwest were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Karstyn Zuelow made the most plays with 15.
Dunham led Crete (24-2) with two hits in two at-bats.
Northwest (19-3) wraps up the regular season and will now host the Class B District 3 tournament at the Vets Complex in Grand Island starting on Thursday, October 8th. North Platte will play Omaha Mercy at 10:00 am the winner will then take on Northwest at 2:00 pm. The other matchup will be Ralston vs. Scottsbluff at Noon. The B-3 championship round will be on Friday, October 9th.
