Northwest Softball Wins Kearney Tournament

(Kearney, NE) - The Northwest softball team cleaned house on Saturday at the 4th annual Kearney Tournament. The Vikings would get wins over Aurora, Norfolk, and host Kearney. 

Northwest is now 8-1 on the season and will next host Kearney Catholic (10-2) on Monday, Sept. 7th at the Vets Complex in Grand Island. Listen to the matchup live on 103.1 FM & 1031kjcountry.com. 

GAME 1

Abby Dinkelman collected five hits in five at-bats as Northwest Varsity Vikings defeated Aurora Varsity Huskies 18-2 on Saturday at PATRIOT PARK, Youth Softball & Baseball Complex. Dinkelman tripled in the fifth inning, doubled in the sixth inning, doubled in the sixth inning, and singled in the first inning.
Northwest Varsity Vikings scored 11 runs in the sixth inning on the way to victory. Naleah Baier doubled, scoring one run, Dinkelman doubled, scoring one run, Becca Dinkelman doubled, scoring one run, Karstyn Zuelow doubled, scoring one run, Addie Burbach drew a walk, scoring one run, Payton Smith doubled, scoring two runs, Haper Wissing singled, scoring one run, Dinkelman doubled, scoring one run, and Kennedie Washington singled, scoring two runs.
Northwest Varsity Vikings opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to two singles. Northwest Varsity Vikings first got on the board when Graclyn Simmons singled, scoring one run.
Northwest Varsity Vikings added one run in the third. Simmons singled to right field, making the score 3-1.
Simmons pitched three innings in relief for Northwest Varsity Vikings. The hurler gave up one hit and one run while, striking out six and walking one. Dinkelman stepped in the circle first for Northwest Varsity Vikings. The hurler surrendered two hits and one run over two innings, striking out none and walking one. Josie Fink began the game for Aurora Varsity Huskies. The starter gave up 23 hits and 18 runs over six innings, striking out two and walking two.
Northwest Varsity Vikings tallied 23 hits in the game. Zuelow provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Northwest Varsity Vikings with three runs batted in. The catcher went 3-for-4 on the day. Wissing, Simmons, Dinkelman, and Baier each collected multiple hits for Northwest Varsity Vikings. Northwest Varsity Vikings were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Zuelow had the most chances in the field with six.
Novella Stevens, Violet Carstensen, and Fink each collected one hit for Aurora Varsity Huskies. Carstensen and Fink each drove in one run for Aurora Varsity Huskies. Aurora Varsity Huskies turned one double play in the game.

Abby Dinkelman collected three hits in three at bats, as Northwest Varsity Vikings defeated Norfolk Varsity Panthers 14-2 on Saturday at Patriot Park. Dinkelman tripled in the second inning, singled in the second inning, and singled in the first inning.
Northwest Varsity Vikings scored nine runs in the second inning on the way to victory. Dinkelman tripled, scoring three runs, Graclyn Simmons doubled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Addie Burbach singled, scoring one run, Lexi Ross singled, scoring one run, Naleah Baier grounded out, scoring one run, and Dinkelman singled, scoring one run.
Norfolk Varsity Panthers got on the board in the first inning after Kennedy Korth doubled, scoring two runs.
Northwest Varsity Vikings made the score 4-2 in the bottom of the first after Becca Dinkelman doubled, scoring two runs, Simmons singled, scoring one run, and an error scored one run.
Northwest Varsity Vikings added one run in the third. Burbach singled to center field, making the score 14-2.
Simmons earned the win for Northwest Varsity Vikings. The pitcher surrendered two hits and two runs over three innings, striking out eight and walking two. Taya Frederick took the loss for Norfolk Varsity Panthers. The starting pitcher went one inning, allowing eight runs on seven hits, striking out two and walking two.
Northwest Varsity Vikings tallied 14 hits in the game. Simmons, Dinkelman, and Burbach each collected three hits for Northwest Varsity Vikings. Northwest Varsity Vikings stole four bases in the game. Northwest Varsity Vikings were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Burbach had the most chances in the field with eight.
Korth and Eastyn Schroeder each collected one hit for Norfolk Varsity Panthers. Korth went 1-for-1 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in.

GAME 3

Northwest Varsity Vikings were victorious against Kearney Varsity Bearcats 6-4 on Saturday at PATRIOT PARK, Youth Softball & Baseball Complex.
Kearney Varsity Bearcats got on the board in the top of the first inning after K Flamig doubled to center field, and Kearney Varsity Bearcats scored on a passed ball, each scoring one run.
Northwest Varsity Vikings captured the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the first when Becca Dinkelman homered to left field, scoring two runs, and Lauren Jones singled, scoring one run.
Zia Shafer singled to center field, which helped Kearney Varsity Bearcats tie the game at three in the top of the second.
In the bottom of the third inning, Northwest Varsity Vikings went back into the lead after Addie Burbach singled down the left field line, and Lexi Ross walked, each scoring one run.
Graclyn Simmons earned the win for Northwest Varsity Vikings. The starting pitcher surrendered five hits and four runs (three earned) over five innings, striking out seven and walking six. M Wolf took the loss for Kearney Varsity Bearcats. The pitcher went one and one-third innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on three hits, striking out one and walking four.
Dinkelman drove the middle of the lineup, leading Northwest Varsity Vikings with two runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Haper Wissing, Simmons, Jones, Dinkelman, and Burbach each collected one hit for Northwest Varsity Vikings. Karstyn Zuelow led Northwest Varsity Vikings with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing nine walks for the game. Northwest Varsity Vikings ran wild on the base paths, tallying four stolen bases for the game. Northwest Varsity Vikings were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Burbach had the most chances in the field with seven.
Flamig went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Kearney Varsity Bearcats in hits. Kennedy Lee, Shafer, and Flamig each drove in one run for Kearney Varsity Bearcats. Quinn Wolf paced Kearney Varsity Bearcats with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting six walks for the game.
