Northwest Softball Wins Wild Game At Elkhorn, 10-9

(Elkhorn, NE) - Bats were blistered as Northwest topped Elkhorn 10-9 on Thursday at Elkhorn High School. Northwest collected 12 hits, while Elkhorn had eight.

Northwest Varsity Vikings didn't take the lead until later in the game. The game was tied at nine in the top of the seventh when Naleah Baier singled, scoring one run.

A single by Graclyn Simmons on an 0-2 count put Northwest on the board in the top of the first.
Maddie Mitchell lined out, which helped Elkhorn tie the game at two in the bottom of the first.
A groundout by Brooklyn Wragge gave Elkhorn the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the second.

Northwest Varsity Vikings captured the lead, 5-3, in the top of the third when Becca Dinkelman homered to center field, scoring two runs, and Addie Burbach singled, scoring one run.

Elkhorn tied the game up in the bottom of the fourth thanks to two home runs. Elkhorn tied the game at seven on a home run to left field by Mitchell.

In the top of the sixth, Northwest broke up the tie when Dinkelman hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run. Then a double by Lauren Jones followed to extend the lead to 9-7.

Ava Crollard homered to center field on a full count, which helped Elkhorn tie the game at nine in the bottom of the sixth.

Simmons earned the win for Northwest. The pitcher allowed eight hits and nine runs (six earned) over seven innings, striking out none and walking six. Lina Aden took the loss for Elkhorn. The starting pitcher went seven innings, surrendering 10 runs (nine earned) on 12 hits, striking out seven and walking five.

Northwest Varsity Vikings piled up 12 hits in the game. Simmons and Dinkelman were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in three runs for Northwest. Abby Dinkelman went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Northwest in hits. Baier and Karstyn Zuelow each collected multiple hits for Northwest. Dinkelman stole two bases. 

Northwest had a strong eye at the plate, tallying five walks for the game. Northwest ran wild on the base paths, collecting eight stolen bases for the game.

Wragge went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Crollard and Wragge each collected two hits for Elkhorn. McKenna Duensing paced Elkhorn with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying six walks for the game. Duensing stole four bases. Elkhorn stole five bases in the game. Elkhorn turned one double play in the game.

Elkhorn is now 8-11 on the season, at the Papillion La Vista Invite this Saturday. Northwest (13-1) will be back in action on Saturday, hosting their home tournament at the Vets Complex.
