NPPD to Host “Energize & Engage” Educational Event in Grand Island

Grand Island Public Library

Grand Island, Neb. — Grand Island has been selected as one of 16 communities across the state to host an "Energize & Engage" educational event in partnership with Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD).

These events are part of NPPD’s ongoing public outreach related to its Next Generation Nuclear siting feasibility study, allowing interested residents to learn more about next generation nuclear energy. The Grand Island event will take place on Tuesday, July 8, from 4-6 p.m. at the Grand Island Public Library. The session is free and open to the public and will provide an opportunity for residents to learn more about Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and their potential role in Nebraska’s energy future.

Subject matter experts will be on hand to share insights and answer questions, including:
  *   Dan Buman, SMR expert
  *   Roman Estrada, NPPD Generation Strategies Program Manager
  *   Nicole Sedlacek, NPPD Economic Development Manager

Representatives from 1898 & Co., the consulting firm conducting the siting study for NPPD, will also be in attendance. Additionally, members of the Nebraska Department of Economic Development and the Advanced Nuclear Coalition plan to participate to provide further information and respond to public questions.

This event is part of NPPD’s broader effort to engage communities in understanding the potential for advanced nuclear energy technologies and their implications for economic development, energy reliability and environmental impact.
