Pineau Shines as Baseball Blanks Butler in Series Opener

OMAHA, Neb. -- Jack Pineau struck out eight in six scoreless innings and Isaac Wachsmann drove in a season-high four runs to lead Creighton Baseball to a 6-0 victory over Butler in the series opener on Friday, April 24.

The win moved the Bluejays to 23-16 on the season and 8-2 in conference contests, while Butler fell to 15-26 overall and 5-5 in conference contests.

Creighton scored one run each in the second, third and fifth innings before Wachsmann's team-leading eighth round-tripper of the season, a 373-foot shot to right-center that also scored Ben North and Nate McHugh gave the Bluejays a 6-0 edge in the bottom of the seventh.

The Bluejays got on the scoreboard in the second as Connor Capece reached on an infield single, Teddy Deters laced a double to center and Chris Baillargeon delivered a productive ground out.

The second run of the game came in Creighton's third frame as Nate McHugh was hit by a pitch, took second on a wild pitch and scored on Capece's RBI single through the left side.

Creighton pushed the contest to 3-0 in the fifth as McHugh lined a double down the left field line and Wacshmann drove an RBI single through the right side.

Pineau improved to 6-1 with his third scoreless outing in his last five starts. He struck out eight and walked just one in 92 pitches. Eli Nissen threw two hitless innings in relief in his sixth consecutive scoreless outing before Joe Hauser came on to secure the final three outs.

The Bulldogs and Bluejays return to the diamond on Saturday at 2 pm, for Creighton's annual Salute to Service game.
