Powell wins 56th Cornhusker Trap Shoot

On a week of tight competition, Justin Powell of Papillion-La Vista South won the 56th Cornhusker Trap Shoot on Saturday, May 2, in Doniphan, Nebraska.

Powell broke 146 of a possible 150 targets in two days to win the Cornhusker Cup as the overall champion. He hit 73 of 75 targets at 16 yards on Friday, then broke 73 at 25 yards in the handicap on Saturday.

Defending champion Kahne Packer of Wilber 5 Clovers 4-H finished second at 145. Five others finished within two shots of Powell.

Addison Ridley of Blue River 4-H won the ladies’ overall title with a 141.

Norris and Wilber 5 Clovers 4-H dominated the team competition. The Norris One squad of George Lee, Fletcher Hewitt, Britton Petersen, Logan Schneider, and J. Mason Sobotka won the top high school team, with a 703 of a possible 750, and the handicap team title. Norris’ ladies squad of Grace Douglas, Ava Schmutte, Aubrey Zoubek, Olivia Zoubek, and Addisyn Galyen won overall and handicap crowns.

The Wilber 5 Clovers squad of Packer, Kaden Togstad, Cooper Hayek, Brecken Niemeyer, and Collin Kohout also shot a 703 to win the 4-H team title and 4-H handicap title. Wilber’s ladies squad of Allyssa Kotas, Kelsey Zoubek, Hannah Kohout, Monica Zoubek, and Jaycee Schwisow took the overall and handicap team titles as well.
