Public Invited to Learn More About the Broadwell Avenue Viaduct Project

City Of Grand Island

Grand Island, Neb. — The City of Grand Island (City) is proposing to construct a grade-separated viaduct that would carry Broadwell Avenue over the Union Pacific railroad tracks in Grand Island, as well as close the Pine Street railroad crossing east of Broadwell Avenue.

Community members are invited to participate in a virtual open house to learn more about the project and provide feedback. The virtual open house will be available from October 5 through
November 4, 2026, at www.grand-island.com/broadwell.

Project team members will also be available at the Grand Island Farmers Market on October 17 from 8 a.m. to Noon, and on October 24 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., to answer questions and discuss the project. The market is located at the Bosselman Enterprises Parking Lot, 607 S Locust Street.

Materials will be available in both English and Spanish, and a Spanish interpreter will be present.

This project may require the City to purchase land and houses. If your property is impacted by this project, you will be contacted by a representative once the design footprint has been established. Other impacts may include access changes, parking modifications, temporary detours for vehicles and pedestrians, and noise during construction. Impacts on historic properties are not anticipated. An Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible shuttle service would be provided during project construction. Visit the virtual open house for more detailed information.

Comments will be collected through November 4 and may be submitted through the virtual open house, by email, phone, or mail to Tim Golka at [email protected], 308-389-0263, 100 E 1st Street, PO Box 1968, Grand Island, NE 68802.

Comments will be considered as final design progresses through late 2027. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2029 and be completed in 2030.
