Public Meeting to be Held for GIAMPO 2050 Long Range Transportation Plan


Grand Island, Neb. — The Grand Island Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (GIAMPO) invites community members to a public meeting for the draft 2050 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) on Thursday, December 11 from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. at the Grand Island Public Library.

The meeting will be held in an open-house style with no formal presentation, so attendees can come and go at their convenience. Participants will be able to learn more about the content of the draft LRTP and ask staff questions about potential future multi-modal (highway, roads, transit, freight, bicycle and pedestrian facilities) transportation strategies and proposed projects that will help guide transportation planning decisions for the next 25 years.

For those unable to participate in person, an online version of the meeting will be available beginning December 11 at www.GI2050.com. Visitors to the website can review meeting materials, the draft LRTP and provide comments through January 12, 2026. Feedback may also be submitted via email to [email protected] or by mail to:

A hard copy of the draft LRTP will also be available for review at the Grand Island Public Works Department (City Hall, 100 E First Street) and Grand Island Public Library (1124 W 2nd Street). The input gathered through January 12 will be used to refine the draft LRTP. The final version of this plan is anticipated to be adopted by the GIAMPO Policy Board in February 2026. MORE ABOUT THE 2050 LRTP
The 2050 LRTP is a 25-year plan that will guide transportation system decision-making for the Grand Island area and provide a list of transportation projects that meet future regional needs. The LRTP will be developed through public input and a technical analysis of how all modes of transportation perform, including highways, streets, transit, freight, bicycle and pedestrian facilities. GIAMPO will not only analyze how the system operates today but will also forecast.
