Washington, D.C. -- Trailing 60-41 early in the fourth quarter, Creighton Women's Basketball had the ball with a chance to win the game in the final seconds before falling to Georgetown 76-74 on Sunday, December 28. The loss moved Creighton to 6-7 on the season and 2-2 in BIG EAST action, while Georgetown moved to 8-4 overall and 1-2 in conference action.
The comeback began with eight straight points as Neleigh Gessert sank a pair from the charity stripe, then senior Kennedy Townsend hit back-to-back treys in the span of 13 seconds to bring Creighton within 11 at 60-49 (8:14). The Bluejays chipped away throughout the next six minutes, but trailed 74-66 with just over two minutes left.
Townsend and Gessert answered the call with consecutive treys to make it 74-72 with 34 seconds left. The Hoyas hit one of two at the line, then Townsend scored on a driving layup to bring Creighton within a point at 75-74 with 12 seconds on the clock. After another 1-of-2 from the foul line by Georgetown, Creighton head coach Jim Flanery used his final timeout to advance the ball with eight seconds remaining. Creighton's play found Townsend at the top of the key, but her shot came up short. Freshman Kendall McGee grabbed the rebound, appearing to be fouled as she elevated, but no whistle sounded as the game came to a close.

The Bluejays return to the hardwood on Thursday, January 1 at Villanova in a game broadcast on ESPN+. The contest is set for an 11:00 am (CT) tip.
