Red Flag Warning Issued

National Weather Service

Today is forecast to be the hottest day of the week, with highs reaching into the 80s to lower 90s. High Temperature Records at both Grand Island and Hastings are at risk. Normal highs for this time of year are in the mid 50s to near 60.

This heat, combined with dewpoints in the 30s for most locations, is expected to cause relative humidity values to drop to between 10-20 percent. The lowest values are expected west of Highway 281.

Gusty west-northwest winds will spread across the area this morning behind a passing frontal boundary. Gusts up to 25-30 MPH will be possible through the early to mid-afternoon hours.

Driven by the gusty winds and low relative humidity, near-critical to critical fire weather conditions are expected to develop today.  A Red Flag Warning is in effect from noon-8PM today for all of our forecast area except Rooks, Osborne, and Mitchell counties in north central Kansas.

Please find additional information and forecast details in our attached Decision Support Packet.
