Ricketts Celebrates Committee Passage of Bipartisan Legislation to Crack Down on Iran

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE), a member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, celebrated the advancement of a bipartisan package of bills he supported cracking down on Iran and its proxies. The bills would add sanctions on Iranian weapons programs, increase enforcement of current sanctions, restrict Iran’s ability to export oil to China, and provide accountability for human rights abuses committed by the Iranian regime.

“Our nation must send a clear message that we stand with Israel and Iran’s terror attacks won’t go unpunished,” Ricketts said. “These bills deprive the Iranian regime and its proxies of the funds used to launch attacks against Israel and U.S. servicemembers in the region. I’m grateful to my colleagues for joining me to advance this important package to the Senate Floor.”

The bills passed out of Committee today include the End Iranian Terrorism Act, the Stop Harboring Iranian Petroleum Act, the Making Iran Sanctions Stick in Lieu of Expiration of Sanctions Act, the Mahsa Amini Human Rights and Security Accountability Act, and a resolution condemning Hamas’ use of sexual violence and rape as a weapon of war.
