Road Closures Announced for Alpha Street and Manchester Road

Grand Island, Neb. — The City of Grand Island is advising residents and motorists of two road closures that take effect today (Monday, May 12) to accommodate important infrastructure improvements.
Alpha Street will be fully closed to thru traffic between 10th Street and 11th Street until Wednesday, May 21. This closure will allow the Grand Island Streets Division to complete concrete pavement repairs in the area. While the street will be closed to thru traffic, local access will be maintained as needed. For questions related to this project, residents can contact the Grand Island Streets Division at (308) 385-5322.
At the same time, Manchester Road will be completely closed west of the intersection from Independence Avenue to Viking Road as part of the ongoing Independence Avenue project. This closure is expected to remain in place through Friday, June 20 and will allow for critical water main work being managed by GI Public Works. Once again, the closure applies to the west side of the Independence Avenue intersection only. The Diamond Engineering Company is the contractor for this project. For more information on this particular project, you’re asked to contact Grand Island Public Works at (308) 382-8362.
Motorists are encouraged to plan alternate routes and allow for additional travel time in these areas. The city appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as we work to improve road conditions and essential utility services.
