Roundabout partially open in Hastings.
The Nebraska Department of Transportation opened the east leg of the roundabout at South Street and Elm Avenue, which is part of the NDOT Hastings Southeast project, on Friday, Oct. 23, 2026.
Opening of the east leg of the roundabout located at South Street and Elm Avenue follows the opening of the north and west legs of the roundabout on Sept. 21.
Looking forward at the paving of Elm Avenue from near B Street to D Street, contractor Werner Construction paved one outside lane of Elm Avenue from near B Street to D Street on Oct. 23 and, weather dependent, plans to pave the other outside lane on Tuesday, Oct. 28.
Depending on concrete cylinder strength and weather, the center lane of Elm Avenue from near B Street to D Street may be paved next week. Once completed and opened, local traffic will be able to get from the round-a-bout to Casey’s and Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village at D Street.
The paving of U.S. Highway 6 south of D Street won’t occur until November.
So, through Highway 6 traffic will continue to be detoured on the southeast bypass using J Street and Showboat Boulevard.
Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.
