Sandhills fire forces evacuations
HYANNIS - Wildfires have started in Grant County, resulting in some road closures on Hwy 2 and Hwy 61. Please use caution if you are driving in areas under Red Flag Warnings. Check Nebraska 511 for road closures before heading out. Homes near Ashby and Hyannis were forced to evacuate early this morning.
Governor Jim Pillen stated on social media, "I have ordered state assets to the Ashby and Hyannis areas in Grant County to support local firefighters dealing with a new wildfire that started overnight. Folks should follow all evacuation orders issued by local authorities and be mindful of Highway 2 closures.
Fellow Nebraskans, please pray for the people of these communities."
Hyannis Area School's posted on Facebook that they remain open and parking lot open if needing a place to park trailers. THERE WILL BE NO SCHOOL ON THURSDAY MARCH 26th.
