GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA (September 3, 2025) Ice cream will soon turn into impact after Nebraska State Fairgoers ate 20 tubs more than last year at the Heartland United Way’s Scoops Ice Cream Parlor.
Scoops allows volunteers to work for their cause, donating the profit to one of 20 community partners or the Heartland United Way. Volunteers gave 796 hours of their time during the fair.

“We cannot thank you enough for your time, your enthusiasm, and your support. Every scoop makes a difference for our partner agencies, and you truly help keep this tradition alive,” Heartland United Way Finance Director Sharon Placke said of volunteers.

Sales were up at the fair in 2025, with 12,218 cones, cups and coffee floats sold. August 31st was the busiest day at the Parlor.

Scoops will reopen outside the Cattle Barn at Fonner Park during Aksarben from September 26th to 28th. Volunteers can sign up to scoop at go2volunteer.org.

You can support work to create opportunities for kids, healthy communities, financial security for local families and a more resilient community by donating at heartlandunitedway.org/donate. United is the Way.
