Jul 28, 2026 / NDOT
July 28, 2026 (Grand Island, Neb.) — Weather permitting on July 31, a small section of U.S. Highway 6 (US-6) will be reopening (reference post 212.75 to reference post 213.10), according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
J Street will be closing from the intersection at Elm Avenue to US-6. Truck traffic should stay on US-6 and not use the Showboat Avenue bypass west of US-6 during this time.
This work is for the continued rebuilding and realignment of the new curve and J Street intersection.
Work will take approximately 6-10 weeks. Drivers should expect traffic delays in the area.
Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and put phones down.
