Section of US-6 will close in Hastings
May 14, 2026 (Grand Island, Neb.) — Weather permitting, on Monday, May 18, a small section of U.S. Highway 6 (US-6), from reference post 213.80 to reference post 214.00 will close, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
This work is for placement of new storm sewer across the existing highway. The closure is expected to take approximately two (2) weeks. Expect traffic delays in the area. Elm Avenue and South Street is the designated detour route around this work.
Following the completion of the storm sewer work and traffic being restored to US-6, the intersection of Elm Avenue and South Street will be closed for the continuation of the new storm sewer, as well as the construction of the new roundabout at that location.
Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and put phones down.
